What to Serve at Your Italian Dinner Party

Italian restaurants are popular in the United States, with a market size of $75.3 billion and expectations that they will continue to grow.

Do you love Italian food too? Traveling to a restaurant is unnecessary to enjoy an Italian dinner. You can do it at home!

In fact, why not host a dinner party with your loved ones? It’s easy. Here is what you need to bring to the table.

A Traditional Italian Dinner Table

If you wish to host a dinner party, you must know a few things about serving an Italian-style meal. First, with traditional Italian food, quantities are always generous and high quality. Italians pride themselves on serving the best food, so these two facts are critical to your Italian dinner party.

Next, a full traditional Italian meal has between three and five courses. Here is what they include.

  • First course (primo): usually pasta or soup
  • Appetizer (antipasto): a small dish that can include olives, cheese, and cured meat
  • Second course (secondo): meat or fish with a side of salad or vegetable
  • Dessert (il dolce): something sweet, like gelato, cannoli, or tiramisu

In addition to the courses, there are four items to include on the table when you host a dinner party. Place salt, pepper, vinegar, and olive oil at the table’s center.

La Carbonara, Pancetta, and Egg Pasta

Good news! This recipe will be ready in fifteen minutes or less! First, let’s start with the ingredients.

  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Three large eggs (room temperature)
  • Three to four tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese (fresh)
  • Two-thirds cup of cubed pancetta
  • Three cups of cooked pasta (your preference, long or short is okay)
  • If you want, grab hot pepper flakes

After you gather your ingredients, here is how to cook them.

The Recipe

First, add the olive oil and pancetta to a large frying pan. If you want hot pepper flakes, add them too.

Stir the pancetta often so that it does not burn. You want the pancetta cooked but not crispy. You can shop for pancetta here.

While cooking the pancetta, boil a large pot with water and add a bit of salt. Cook your pasta in it.

Then, while the pasta is cooking, beat the three eggs in a small bowl and add the fresh parmesan. Mix well.

When the pasta is cooked, turn the heat for the large frying pan back on with the pancetta. Put it on a medium-high. Add the drained pasta and combine them well for approximately twenty to thirty seconds.

Remove the pan from the heat. Add your egg mixture. Toss it all together, mixing constantly.

Add one or two tablespoons of pasta water for a creamier texture. If you wish, top it with parmesan and serve immediately.
