Wyoming has a lot to offer no matter what type of vacation you plan, from family-friendly attractions to gorgeous hiking trails and historical remnants of the Wild West.

5. Connect with Nature

Let’s start with the most obvious option: Yellowstone. Home to the famous Old Faithful geyser, this incredible destination should be on everyone’s bucket list. Enjoy gorgeous canyons, cliffs, forests, geysers, and waterfalls. Marvel at the Grand Prismatic Spring as its rainbow hues shift throughout the day. Admire the mighty buffalo (be sure to keep your distance!). The grounds offer hiking trails with amazing views and guided tours to learn more about the landscape and wildlife.

But Yellowstone isn’t the only amazing vista in Wyoming. The state has several national monuments and state parks to show off some of the most beautiful views in the west. Consider the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area or Devil’s Tower National Monument. Admire the breathtaking views of Medicine Mountain, or explore the enchanting Bridger-Teton National Forest. For something more reclusive, perhaps the Wind River Range’s stunning alpine scenery, lush meadows, glacier-carved valleys, and trout-filled waterways are whispering your name.

You can also visit Grand Teton National Park, with exotic wildlife, pristine lakes, and alpine terrain filled with miles of hiking trails. Grand Teton National Park is also home to Jackson Hole, home of the National Elk Refuge and a few ski resorts. This brings us to number 4…

4. Relax in a Resort or Shred Some Powder

Wyoming is home to beautiful mountain ranges— and deep white powder. Skiing is a popular destination here. In fact, Wyoming has nine ski resorts: the Snow King Mountain Resort, Grand Targhee Ski Resort, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Teton Village, Pinedale, Hogadon Basin, Meadowlark Park, White Pine Ski Area, and Sleeping Giant Ski and Recreation Area. They all have luxurious amenities to offer alongside their unique flairs. Pinedale, for example, invites guests to enjoy local fishing waters, while the more adventurous can try paragliding in Teton Village.

3. Take in the History

Have you ever wanted to explore an old Wild West town or see a rodeo in person? Well, those are just two of the Cowboy State’s attractions. Come see why Wyoming is also called the Cowboy State. You can also visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West— five museums in one, all dedicated to the history and cultures of the surrounding area. Old Trail Town in Cody is home to 30 buildings dating back to 1879; you can take a tour for a real taste of the old west. And be sure not to miss out on the Old West Museum, dedicated to Cheyenne Frontier Days, one of the largest outdoor rodeo shows in the world. After you read about it, you can watch it— Cheyenne Frontier Days is still in business. Passing through Jackson Hole? Don’t miss out on the Town Square Shootout. Wherever you travel in Wyoming, keep your eyes open for horseback riding opportunities.

If the Old West isn’t calling you, consider exploring Fort Laramie National Historic Site or the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. You can also navigate the somber Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, dedicated to the internment of Japanese Americans in the midst of World War II
